L. Neil "El Neil" Smith

Colorado-based prolific sf writer L. Neil Smith (“ElNeil”), also a musician who plays guitar and banjo, has written 28 books. Star Wars fans know him for his three Lando Calrissian novels. Smithwon Prometheus Awards for Best Novel for The Probability Broach(1982), considered one of the definitive libertarian sf novels and the first in a series about a Denver detective in an alternate-reality stateless America; Pallas (1994); and The Forge of the Elders(2001); plus a Special Award (2005) for co-creating The Probability Broach: The Graphic Novel with illustrator Scott Beiser. The Science Fiction Encyclopedia praises Smith for “fast-moving and often amusing adventures.”
